On Sunday, out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Donald Trump’s association with far-right wing whack job Laura Loomer is a “reminder” of what the twice-impeached felon will bring back to the White House if he’s reelected, which Buttigieg summarized in two words: “exhausting chaos.”
Buttigieg’s dead-on observation came on NBC’s Meet the Press following an appearance by Trump’s embattled VP running mate J.D. Vance, who was questioned earlier in the program about Loomer’s racist assertion that “the White House will smell like curry” if Vice President Kamala Harris is elected president.

Even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks the latest advisor to Donald Trump is a toxic — and losing — influence on the former president.
Vance told host Kristen Welker he makes “a mean chicken curry” and “I don’t think that it’s insulting for anybody to talk about their dietary preferences or what they want to do in the White House.”

Buttigieg wasn’t buying it.
“We’re not having a serious policy debate about immigration or any other issue, if you got J.D. Vance on your program, basically debating exactly how racist it is to talk about the things that Laura Loomer is talking about,” Buttigieg rebutted.
“This is the kind of sideshow that they want to take the main stage so that they don’t have to talk about anything serious, and it’s a reminder of just how exhausting it was to deal with all this the first time Donald Trump was president,” the transportation secretary added.
“America would be in for another four years of this exhausting chaos every time we check the news if they come back into power.”
On X, Buttigieg wrote: “Cats! Dogs! Geese! Laura Loomer! Look, now he’s attacking Taylor!” He was referring to just a few of Trump’s outrageous moments from the past week, like when he accused Haitian immigrants in Ohio of eating pets and when he posted “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” to social media several days after Swift endorsed Harris.
“Like the last season before a show gets canceled for getting over-the-top and, at the same time, boring,” Buttigieg wrote. “This election is about jobs, wages, climate, health care, abortion. Not his show. Your life.”
Loomer, a failed Florida Congressional candidate and an avowed 9/11 conspiracy theorist, has spent years hurling homophobic slurs and antisemitic tropes from her internet perch. Lately, the 31-year-old bomb-thrower has latched onto the former president in the waning days of his third bid for the presidency.
Last week Loomer accompanied Trump to the presidential debate in Philadelphia and joined his entourage at events commemorating 9/11. She’s also spent nights at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago club, while the former First Lady has retreated to Trump Tower in New York.
The cozy relationship has prompted criticism from even some of the president’s most ardent and feckless supporters, like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Graham’s public disdain for Loomer prompted her to call out the senator over rumors that he’s gay.
“When is Lindsey coming out of the closet?” Loomer posted soon after Graham dared to disparage her. “We all know you’re Gay, Lindsey.”
It’s just the kind of “exhausting chaos” that Buttigieg is so over.
