Valentina Gomez, a Republican who ran in the primary for Missouri secretary of state, sent out a message to supporters after losing her primary where she said anyone who doesn’t like her is a “fa***t.”
Gomez built her campaign on homophobia, from burning LGBTQ+ books with a flamethrower to making “Don’t be weak and gay” her campaign slogan to posting videos online using the word “fa***t.” In a party that generally does not support LGBTQ+ rights, Valentina Gomez stood out for how cartoonishly hateful her public statements are.

“That was the most fun I’ve ever had,” she told supporters in a video after she lost. “I put the fear of God in these groomers, pedophiles, and corrupt politicians.”
She bragged about how she “triggered every liberal in America” while not paying for ads for her campaign.
“We did it all without holding a single fundraiser,” she said, adding that she “didn’t want this gay s**t being shoved down our throats, men in women’s sports, and babies getting killed.”
“Yes, I lost this election, but I’m young, beautiful, and rich as f**k,” she concluded. She lost her job at Purina dog food over her extreme rhetoric and her campaign was unable to purchase ads.
“If you hate me, you’re probably a fa***t,” she said in a follow-up message.
Gomez drew national attention to the crowded primary in May when she posted a video to social media where she said: “In America, you can be anything you want. So don’t be weak and gay. Stay f**king hard.” She had already drawn some headlines a couple months prior with her flamethrower stunt.
She grew increasingly unhinged as she got closer to the primary, calling LGBTQ+ people “pedophiles” regularly. She even made a video this past week calling LGBTQ+ people “fa***ts” and claiming that unnamed people tried to poison her dogs, before calling Vice President Kamala Harris “an Indian hoe” and saying that Democrats are all “gay, vaccinated, and cannot reproduce.”
While she got more attention from national media outlets than all of her competitors combined, that didn’t translate into votes in the primary.
