Trump begs fans for money to fight “tyranny” after court denies his claim to presidential immunity

“I HAVE NO PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY!”

That was Donald Trump’s declaration to his MAGA base moments after a D.C. appellate court slapped down his claim of presidential immunity on Tuesday in the January 6 election interference criminal case.

It was also a rare claim from the former president that wasn’t an exaggeration or an outright lie.

“Joe Biden has weaponized the entire federal government against US,” Trump railed in a fundraising plea to supporters, returning to form. “They’ll never stop targeting us, but I know with your support at this very moment, WE WILL WIN!”

Trump then demanded followers “chip in” so he can better fight against “tyranny” — and pay his legal bills on the backs of the MAGA faithful.

On Tuesday morning, the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 that “We cannot accept former President Trump’s claim that a President has unbounded authority to commit crimes.”

“Nor can we sanction his apparent contention that the Executive has carte blanche to violate the rights of individual citizens to vote and to have their votes count,” they added.

Or to assassinate them.

Trump’s legal team famously claimed to the court that the former president would even be immune to prosecution for enlisting Navy Seals to eliminate political opponents.

Trump has said he’ll appeal the unanimous decision to the Supreme Court, hoping to further delay special prosecutor Jack Smith’s criminal case.

But court watchers say the 3-judge panel’s ruling is “airtight”, meaning the high court can avoid weighing in.

“Unanimous. No air. Tight as a drum,” attorney George Conway wrote in The Atlantic of the 57-page opinion. The ruling is “all that and more. It’s a masterful example of judicial craftsmanship” and “requires no further review.”

The decision was just “more bad news” for the former president, according to Beltway insider Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

“Every day something new happens, and these are three-judge panels or juries of our peers,” not the Department of Justice, Brzezinski opined.

“And he’s already been found to be a massive fraud, and yet Republicans still keep running around in circles for him and behaving destructively at his whim.”

Just hours after the ruling came down Tuesday morning, House Republicans failed in their attempt to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and couldn’t muster the votes for a stand-alone aid bill for Israel.

Trump was a vocal supporter of both.

Morning Joe’s Chuck Rosenberg agreed the ex-president has no path to immunity through the Supreme Court.

“I think whether you’re a textualist or an originalist, or just a thoughtful, smart justice of the Supreme Court, you read the D.C. opinion. It denies absolute immunity. It counters the notion that double jeopardy was implicated in this case, and the best thing to do, the smartest thing to do, the lawful thing to do is to send this back to Judge Chutkan and let her try it.

“I hope it’s before the election,” Rosenberg added. “I think it will be, I think that’s very much on the table and in the cards, but I think that’s the path forward.”
