JK Rowling is outraged that the press referred to a British trans woman convicted of murder as a “woman.”
The Harry Potter author and notorious Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist (TERF) posted a news clip on X in which the newscaster correctly identified Scarlet Blake – who has been sentenced to life in prison for killing 30-year-old Jorge Martin Carreno – as a woman.

The Republican then got mad at Democrats for “showing disrespect towards me” before she apologized.
“I’m so sick of this sh*t,” Rowling wrote. “This is not a woman. These are #NotOurCrimes.”

Blake, 26, rose to infamy as the “cat killer” after she live-streamed herself killing and mutilating her neighbor’s cat and then placing it in a blender. She was inspired by the Netflix documentary, Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer. Four months later – on July 25, 2021 – Blake randomly targeted Carreno, whacking him on the head before strangling him and pushing him into a river. Reports of the trial say prosecutors explained Blake committed the murder because she had a “fixation with violence and with knowing what it would be like to kill someone.”
Rowling also praised a journalist for submitting a letter to the editor of The Guardian complaining that its article on Blake referred to her as a woman rather than a transgender woman. The complaint also emphasized that “it was a man who committed this murder. Not a woman.”
“Every single word of this,” Rowling wrote, reposting the complaint.
To the heartbreak of many of her fans, Rowling has long positioned herself as an enemy of the trans community.
She has issued diatribes about transgender people, come out in support of conversion therapy for trans people, and claimed that almost everyone agrees with her, even as famous people that she has worked with condemned her words. She also published a book about a man who wears dresses in order to kill women.
Rowling’s anti-transgender views have even held sway in U.S. politics, with Republicans citing her to attack LGBTQ rights.
Another prominent TERF, Kara Dansky, also expressed outrage at The Guardian, which ultimately did include Blake’s transgender status as an added detail in the piece.
“By ‘is transgender,’ the Guardian means he’s male. Those of us who follow these things closely can see clearly what’s going on, but anyone else reading the story might easily think the killer was a woman. It’s all lies. It’s gaslighting and it has to stop.”
Blake’s life sentence includes a minimum of 24 years, though according to the Daily Mail, her own lawyer acknowledged she is too dangerous to ever get parole. She will reportedly be sent to a men’s prison.
