A Super Bowl ad features a real-life gay couple as part of a series of couples who show their love through knowing each other’s McDonald’s orders.
“His order is a 20-piece Chicken McNugget,” one member of the couple says while both of them smile and hold hands. Later in the ad, they appear again and the same person says, “Knowing their order is a sign of loving them.”

Sprinkled throughout the testimonials from the everyday couples is one from Cardi B and Offset, who share their preferences as part of their current partnership with McDonald’s.
The fast food chain is offering fans the ability to purchase “The Cardi B & Offset” meal bundle inspired by the couple. It includes a cheeseburger, a side of BBQ sauce, and a large Coke (Cardi B’s favorite), as well as a Quarter Pounder with cheese and a large Hi-C Orange Lavaburst (Offset’s favorite).

In addition to Cardi B, Offset, and the gay couple, the Super Bowl ad features a diverse range of other couples that span a variety of ages, ethnicities, languages, and abilities.
McDonald’s ads in France, Taiwan, and the U.S. have featured gay people in the past, but according to Queerty, this is the first time a gay couple has appeared in a commercial for the chain.
A 2016 ad from Taiwan shows an emotional moment in which a boy comes out to his accepting father. A 2010 ad from France depicts a boy whose father has no clue he is gay. The audience is in on it, though, and the boy smiles cheekily while his father talks to him about dating girls.
And one that aired in the U.S. last year features a gay kickball team who declares, “Our friendships may have started on the field, but this is our happy place.”
