Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has announced that his daughter, Alison Schumer, has welcomed a baby with her wife, Elizabeth Weiland.
On Monday, Sen. Schumer tweeted a photo of himself holding baby Henry.
“Joy to the world!” he wrote. “Elizabeth and Alsion, my daughter-in-law and daughter, gave birth to beautiful Henry on Thursday, our third grandchild!”

Sen. Schumer has long been a champion of his daughter’s relationship. In 2018, he announced they were engaged with a photo of him standing between them at the New York City Pride Parade.
“Marching in the #NYCPride Parade has special meaning this year as I am marching with my daughter Alsion and her wonderful fiancée Biz!” Sen. Schumer wrote.

This past November, he celebrated the Senate’s passage of the Respect for Marriage Act – which overturned the Defense of Marriage Act and requires the federal government and state governments to recognize same-sex and interracial marriages performed in other states – by posting about his daughter’s growing family.
“I just called my daughter and her wife—who are expecting a baby next spring—to let them know that this Senate passed the Respect for Marriage Act! What a great day!” he wrote.

And on the day President Biden signed the Respect For Marriage Act on the White House lawn, Sen. Schumer told the crowd that he wore the same tie that he wore to his daughter’s wedding to her wife. “One of the happiest days of my life,” he said.
“By enacting this law we are sending a message to LGBTQ Americans everywhere,” he continued. “You too deserve dignity. You too deserve equality. That’s about as an American ideal as they come.”
