Anti-LGBTQ Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has been one of former President Donald Trump’s biggest cheerleaders. The MAGA politician stoked the Jan. 6 insurrection by promoting Trump’s Big Lie and infamously raised his fist as he passed the Capitol building to show solidarity with the protestors.

But last night’s hearings into the attack on the Capitol in an attempt to keep Trump in office made Hawley a nationwide laughingstock after the committee showed the photo of Hawley’s salute followed by video of him running through the halls of Congress in a panic to avoid the rioters storming the building. While everyone in the committee hearing room laughed at the video of Hawley fleeing the crowd he had riled up, social media users had a field day with the footage.

Hawley, who styles himself as a populist, was the first senator to announce that he would challenge the certification of the electoral votes in a desperate bid to keep Trump in office despite his loss at the ballot box. Even after the riot subsided, he continued on with his plan, delaying the process needlessly to gin up his far-right supporters.

“I will never apologize for giving voice to the millions of Missourians and Americans who have concerns about the integrity of our election,” Hawley said in a statement released after his stunt put Vice President Mike Pence, his fellow legislators, and staff at risk as Trump supporters attacked police officers, smashed their way into the building and started chanting “Hang Mike Pence!”

But the video of Hawley sprinting through the halls of Congress in a desperate bid to stay ahead of the angry mob showed just how sorry he was for priming the pump of insurrection. No matter what he has claimed after the riot, video speaks louder than words.

And the video showed just how terrified he was.
