Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) accused “the Left” of caring more about transgender people than they do about “murdering a baby,” in a tweet about Roe v. Wade being overturned.
“The Left thinks misgendering someone is a more heinous crime than dismembering and murdering a baby,” the Congresswoman tweeted.

Boebert was referring to the reaction to the leaked draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which showed that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and end the right to an abortion in the U.S.

Boebert opposes reproductive freedom so she has been celebrating the draft opinion for the last several days, mostly by making fun of transgender people.
“Seems the Left suddenly can define ‘woman’ again,” she tweeted sarcastically on Tuesday.
“Where’s the outrage from all the pregnant men?” she wrote, even though many trans masculine people have been outraged by the decision.
Boebert was probably referring to dilation and extraction abortions with her latest statement about “dismembering and murdering a baby.” The procedure was used for later term abortions to protect the safety of the parent carrying the child, but was banned in the U.S. under the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban of 2003. The Supreme Court upheld that law in 2007, so the upcoming Dobbs opinion won’t affect the legal status of the procedure.
Roe protects the right to an abortion without government interference in the first trimester, when dilation and extraction is not used. So it’s not clear why Boebert even brought up the procedure in this context.
Misgendering is a form of harassment that causes psychological distress to transgender people.
