White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki shut down the latest rightwing conspiracy theory related to President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden by bringing up how Donald Trump infamously never made his tax returns public.
For several months now, rightwing media has been harping on Biden’s S corporation, which he set up to manage his income from speaking fees and writing. While there’s nothing particularly unusual about this financial structure, conservatives claim that it could be hiding shady business dealings with Hunter Biden. There isn’t evidence Hunter Biden wrote a check to the S corporation, but conservative media has been obsessed with Hunter Biden since the 2020 presidential campaign.

A reporter asked Psaki at the White House press briefing yesterday: “Will President Biden be releasing the sources of income that were in that three- $13 million, particularly as there’s attention being paid to his son and whether he earned any money from his businesses?”
“Well, again, the President doesn’t have dealings with his family members about business,” Psaki responded before going for a dig at Trump, who didn’t even go so far as to release his tax returns at all: “And he has released decades of tax returns, which is more than I can say for his predecessor.”
She then moved on to a question about North Korea.
