The best joke at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner was about Kyrsten Sinema

Nerd Prom returned to Washington, D.C. as the media, politicians, and entertainers gathered for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. President Joe Biden attended and spoke at the event after the notoriously thin-skinned former president Donald Trump refused to attend.

Host Trevor Noah roasted the elite and Biden also cracked jokes, but out bisexual Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) was on the receiving end of the best punchline of the night.

The yearly tradition regularly pokes fun at politicians and media figures and after four years of Trump and two years under the pandemic, even Biden had to take a crack at Trump’s expense. Former President Barack Obama’s wisecrack about Trump reportedly enraged him and sparked Trump’s vehement hatred of both Biden and Obama.

But Sinema and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) have been the holdups to passing Biden’s domestic agenda, not Trump. Manchin was an expected holdout with his penchant for being a deliberate fly in the ointment. The programs are incredibly popular with voters, but Manchin has raised repeated objections to certain items.

Sinema, on the other hand, has hung her hat on bipartisanship. As the GOP launches nonstop attacks on Democrats, Sinema has refused to vote in favor of anything that might upset Republicans and her new corporate backers she shares with the GOP.

And Noah took full advantage of Sinema’s faux concerns right off the bat.

“I’m not doing this just for the attention. All right? I’m a comedian, not Kyrsten Sinema,” he said about landing the gig as host. “By the way, give it up for Kyrsten Sinema. Whoever thought we’d see the day in American politics when a senator could be openly bisexual, but closeted Republican? That’s progress.”

Out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, one of the youngest members of the administration, also landed a mention in Biden’s remarks, with the elderly president joking that he had let his grandkids and Buttigieg stay up late to watch the event.
