“I’ve always had a high aptitude for music,” Trump said. “But I love great music.”
Trump has been known to play disk jockey at his Mar-A-Lago events, and he admitted that the tune is one of his go-tos. Trump’s campaign played the song so much that it rose in popularity and hit #11 on Billboard’s Digital Sales Chart more than 40 years after it was released.
“You know what gets ‘em rocking? ‘Y.M.C.A.,’” Trump said. “‘Y.M.C.A.,’ the gay national anthem. Did you ever hear that? They call it the gay national anthem. But ‘Y.M.C.A.’ gets people up, and it gets ‘em moving.”
“People love it when I do it,” Trump concluded.
Liberals celebrating the 2020 election results outside the White House broke out in the 1978 gay anthem to mock Trump’s use of the song in his campaign.
