Russia announced retaliatory sanctions against several US government officials, along with former Secretary of State and Democratic candidate for President Hillary Clinton. Russian President Vladimir Putin considers Clinton one of his biggest enemies after the hard line she took against Russian aggression during the Obama administration.

But when White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked about the move during the daily briefing for reporters, she wryly noted that the Russians had flubbed up their sanctions. They’d accidentally punished President Joe Biden’s deceased father.

“I would first note that President Biden is a junior so they may have sanctioned his dad, may he rest in peace,” Psaki cracked before answering how she felt about being sanctioned by a foreign government herself.

Psaki said the sanctions were worthless other than providing fodder for late night comedians.

“None of us are planning tourist trips to Russia,” she explained. “None of us have bank accounts that we won’t be able to access, so we will forge ahead.”
