Twitter jokes that the White House came out as bisexual last night

A picture of the White House lit up in multiple colors sparked humorous speculation that the historic building at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was coming out.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, in Tokyo representing the Biden administration at the Olympics, posted a picture of the White House on July 23. “Meanwhile, back in DC! #TeamUSA,” she captioned the post.

White House correspondent for Bloomberg Jordan Fabian confirmed that the lights outside the White House were lit up in shades of red, blue and white in solidarity with the Olympians currently competing under the American flag.

Still, intentionally or not, the colors that the lights displayed appear differently at first glance. It looks more like the right side of the White House is purple, with the right-to-middle section looking pink, and the middle-to-left being blue.

This strongly resembles the colors shown in the bisexual flag (although if the lights on the White House were meant to depict the flag’s colors in order, pink would have gone first.)

It may be easy to dismiss the colors on the White House as purely coincidental, but we won’t make any conclusions one way or the other about the building’s identity.

Some on Twitter did, however. Kristofer Thomas said, “i love how they just accidentally broadcast the bisexual pride flag.”

If it was an accident.

President Joe Biden did say last month that “Pride is back at the White House.”

Maybe this use of “bisexual lighting” is an example of that.

Yes, bisexual lighting is a thing. Here’s Megan Fox awash in it, for example.

Some users believe that this was the work of “bicon” Dr. Biden.

Then came then inevitable “Bi-den” jokes.

Honestly, it’s surprising that they haven’t entered common use already.

Regardless of the meaning of the photo of the front of a building, the sight made several people happy and excited.

Some took it as a quiet sign from Dr. Biden herself.

Some took it as confirmation that the White House itself is coming out as bisexual.

The White House has been around for over 240 years, but since bisexual people typically spend more time closeted than straight or gay people, it would somewhat fit.

Although we now know that the colors were meant to depict something else, it was still a fun moment for LGBTQ people all over the internet.

So expect the right-wing outrage to come inevitably as a result of this.
