Senator Ted Cruz was recently revealed to be on President Donald Trump’s short list for nominees to the Supreme Court, should another chair become available. He spent the weekend proving his worthiness by, in part, tweeting about gender reveal parties and mocking liberals.
The Texas Republican shared a tweet from the Daily Wire, a conservative news site, which claimed that comedian Trevor Noah was “offended” by the idea of gender reveal parties because children haven’t “picked [their] gender yet.”
“A fair point,” Cruz said in reposting the tweet on Friday, “many liberal males never grow balls…”

What the Daily Wire refers to as Noah taking ‘offense’ to is from a recent episode of Noah’s talk show, The Daily Show. A segment of the Comedy Central series touched on the recent El Dorado fires, sparked by a misused device at a gender reveal party on September 5.
During the segment, Noah said in part that “aside from all the damage it can cause, celebrating a baby’s genitalia is starting to feel very outdated…given everything we’re learning about gender.” Daily Wire derided the comedian’s “deeply serious…left-wing views” on the topic, saying it “attempts to disconnect” the “inextricably connected” concepts of sex and gender.
The El Dorado fires are the latest negative effect to come from gender reveal parties. Even the creator of the trendy concept has regrets over its popularity, especially since she now has a gender non-conforming child. The fires have now raged on for over 8 days, and are only 41% contained as of Saturday, according to California’s Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Cruz’s tweet may have had the opposite effect he intended. He received waves of criticism, starting in most of the tweet’s 45,000 and counting replies, before the hashtag “#TedCruzHasNoBalls” started trending.
Many responses called him out for posting the tweet on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks – especially since he has a history of putting genitals on his social media on that day. On Sept. 11, 2017, a pornographic tweet was liked from Cruz’s account. Others pointed out Cruz’s support for Trump, despite his past insults about Cruz’s father, his wife, and Cruz himself when they were opponents in the 2016 election.
Classic Ted Cruz, thinking about genitals on 9/11

A US Senator! This is what he's doing! There are 190,000 people dead, more dying every day, tens of millions out of work and he's…launched a podcast. https://t.co/LktEi3b0ph

“I never understood the use of ‘balls’ as ‘tough’,” comedian Sarah Silverman tweeted in response, “balls are about as tough as a fabergé egg.”
“Amazing where we are as a society,” NBA player JJ Redick also tweeted. “A US Senator and nominee for SCOTUS tweeting about male genatalia.”
Actor Misha Collins, however, offered kinder words for Sen. Cruz. “I’m proud of you for being (accidentally) inclusive, Teddy — genitals don’t determine gender,” he tweeted.
I never understood the use of “balls” as “tough”. Balls are about as tough as a faberge egg. They snuggle up 2 ur taint the second they catch a chill. No matter— u suck Trump’s pussy even tho he called ur wife ugly& planted a story that ur dad killed JFK LOLOL #BallsArePussies https://t.co/lnneGeHEDB

I’m proud of you for being (accidentally) inclusive, Teddy — genitals don’t determine gender & lots of males aren't born with “balls.”
But since you’re focused on anatomy, try growing a “spine” & actually standing up for the people you represent in Texas! https://t.co/XRmFBKs77f

Eventually, Noah himself responded, writing in a tweet to Cruz: “Remind me Senator […] are balls the things you had when Trump destroyed you[?]” He also called those at the Daily Wire “such losers” for their characterization of his comments.
Remind me Senator are balls the things you had when Trump destroyed you, insulted your wife’s face, said your dad killed JFK, hijacked your party and all you did was kiss his ass?? 😂 https://t.co/sGB8i9sduQ

Cruz has a long history of promoting anti-LGBTQ points, both in his rhetoric and his policies. For example, he has been a staunch opponent of the Supreme Court’s 2015 marriage equality ruling, calling it “fundamentally illegitimate” and surmising it has “threatened…an assault on” Christianity.
Like Trump, Cruz has routinely mocked his opponents, specifically attacking those on the left with veiled transphobic jokes. In March, he claimed Sen. Bernie Sanders “identifies as every gender, simultaneously.”
Other highlights from Cruz’s weekend include releasing a video claiming that Joe Biden will make Sanders his nominee secretary of state, and writing a letter to the Department of Justice falsely claiming that there is child nudity in the controversial film Cuties on Netflix.
