Out former Congresswoman Katie Hill has some choice words for Jerry Falwell Jr

Former Rep. Katie Hill (D-CA) had a few choice words for Jerry Falwell Jr. The evangelical leader resigned as head of Liberty University yesterday in the midst of a sex scandal involving his wife and another man.

Hill was among the first out bisexual people elected to Congress, but less than a year after being elected she admitted she and her husband had a “consensual” but “inappropriate” relationship with a campaign staffer.

Commenting on Falwell’s attempt to blame his fall from grace on an alleged affair between his wife and a former hotel pool attendant, Hill tweeted: “I have 12 draft tweets about Jerry Falwell Jr it’s just too much.”

Later it was revealed that it was a 3-way relationship with the other man, Giancarlo Granda. Falwell Jr. would watch as the man had sex with his wife,  Granda told reporters.

“STFU and go back to the corner Jerry,” she wrote.

A rightwing website published revenge porn that her estranged husband – who Hill called “abusive” – allegedly released in an attempt to humiliate her.

The New York Post published a story about her tweet and called her an “ex-‘throuple’ pol” – reducing her story of abusive relationships, sexual harassment, and revenge porn into a titillating sex scandal.

The Post “likes to label me as ‘ex-throuple pol’ but doesn’t call Falwell ‘ex-cuckold religious leader’ — weird,” she tweeted.

“Very weird,” responded Monica Lewinsky, whose sexual relationship with former President Bill Clinton was the subject of tabloids for years.

Lewinsky signed her tweet “Portly Pepperpot,” one of the names the Post called her in the 1990s.

Hill recently wrote a book about her experiences in Congress that was published two weeks ago entitled She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality. She argues in the book that it was “rampant misogyny” that led to her exit from politics, citing men in positions of power who have been accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault but who haven’t been forced from office in what she calls a “double standard.”

“It’s hard to identify exactly how much of a role the sexism separately from other factors played into my resignation but what I know is that an abusive relationship is a factor of sexism,” she said in an interview about the book. “The photos that were taken and posted without my consent is a factor of sexism.”

“The shaming is a factor of sexism and the way that women are held to a higher standard. We have someone in the White House who has over 25 people who have accused him of sexual misconduct but it’s almost something that we have come to expect or normalize for men and not for women.”

In the comments on Hill’s tweets about Falwell, actor Tom Arnold told her to “DM me.”

“I’ll tell you everything about Jerry Falwell Jr. & his wife and the pool boys Michael Cohen naked pics 2016 why Falwell suddenly decided to support Trump (naked pics),” he wrote.

In 2019, Arnold, who is Roseanne Barr’s ex-husband, released a recorded conversation that suggested that Donald Trump’s fixer Michael Cohen had helped Falwell resolve an “embarrassing” scandal that involved “racy personal” photos he was being blackmailed with, a scandal that many speculated at the time involved Granda because of the timing and locations of events.

In the recording, Cohen said that someone had somehow come into possession of “a bunch of photographs, personal photographs” of Falwell, which he described as the kind usually kept “between husband and wife.”

“I actually have one of the photos,” Cohen said during the conversation. “It’s terrible.”

Falwell Jr. was one of the biggest early supporters of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
