Update: It turns out this isn’t the first Super Bowl ad to feature drag queens – there’s at least one that came out before this in the year 2000. We regret the error.

Two RuPaul’s Drag Race alumnae appearing in an upcoming Super Bowl ad, making them the first drag queens to appear in an ad aired during the year’s biggest sporting event next Sunday.

Kim Chi from season 8 and Miz Cracker from season 10 appeared in a teaser for a 30-second ad for Sabra Hummus.

“Ready, Cracker?” Kim Chi asks in the teaser.

“Chickpeas, I was born ready,” Cracker responds. She then tries to put on a football helmet.

It’s a silly teaser for a possibly even sillier ad, but the significance of it is no joke. The Super Bowl regularly gets over 100 million viewers, making it one of the most-watched television events each year.

Ads that appear during the game are seen by a wide cross-section of Americans, including people who are often not exposed to drag – or LGBTQ people in general – at all.
