On the 26th of June, 2015, the United States Supreme Court handed down its decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, allowing same-sex marriage to be legalized across the United States. To get it from the courts to reporters, staff members ran the decision from the court to those waiting outside.

Obergefell overturned the earlier Baker v. Nelson case that found state-level marriage bans constitutional. Prior to Obergefell, same-sex marriage was legal in 36 states.
