Betsy DeVos is making it crystal clear she supports this week’s action by the Trump administration to strip away civil rights protections for transgender children.
That was perhaps the most surprising news to come out of the White House this month; not Thursday’s rollback of Obama-era protections for trans students across America, but reports that the education secretary stood up to top lawman Jeff Sessions and President Donald Trump on behalf of trans kids.
Yeah, well, up to a point; The New York Times reported DeVos relented rather than resign and settled for language requiring schools to prevent anti-trans bullying. “Schools must ensure that transgender students, like all students, are able to learn in a safe environment.”
But as Right Wing Watch reported, that’s not what DeVos and conservative CNN commentator Kayleigh McEnany discussed at the 2017 Conservative Political Action Conference Thursday.

The women discussed bullying, all right… of conservative children.
And when McEnany decried the Obama administration guidelines as “lawless,” DeVos joined the CPAC crowd in criticizing the 2016 guidelines as a federal “overreach.”
