A ‘furious’ Ellen DeGeneres brought Kathy Griffin to tears

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Kathy Griffin dropped a bombshell about everyone’s favorite mild-mannered comic, Ellen DeGeneres. Griffin claims a “furious” DeGeneres called her up to read her the riot act after Griffin mentioned her in a blind item in her recent tell-all book and then confirmed to the media that it was about DeGeneres.

“I’m almost positive a certain beloved daytime talk show host once had me kicked out of a backstage dressing room at the Emmy Awards,” Griffin writes in her book. “I can’t prove it, but this person, who has short blonde hair, has a mean streak that all of Hollywood knows about.”

In an interview with Access Hollywood to promote the book, Griffin acknowledged the talk show host was DeGeneres, saying she thought female comics over 50 who are working should support each other instead of tearing each other down. She cited a monologue DeGeneres performed once on her show that referred to Griffin as “mean.”

After the interview aired, Griffin says DeGeneres picked up the phone to have it out.

“She was really on a rant,” Griffin said.

By the end of the call, Griffin told the show, she was left speechless and in tears.

“After the phone call I literally started sobbing,” Griffin said. “At the end of the day, whether we like each other or not, I’m always going to support a woman, over fifty, in the game, and making a great living.”
