Miami leads America’s top ten cities with highest rates of HIV

This is not a top ten list you want to find your hometown on, nor favorite vacation destination. Get Tested published this worrisome selection of U.S. cities last month, in hopes of spurring more people to do exactly what its name suggests: get tested for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or HIV.

Miami, according to the Centers for Disease Control, has the highest rate of HIV in America. Reported cases shot up 23 percent in 2015, and the number of people with cases of infection has surprassed 52,000. Miami’s HIV rates may be high due its reputation as a ‘party city,’ according to Get Tested.

We’re sharing this information with you in conjunction with World AIDS Day. So scroll down and see if your city made the list, and even if you think “I’m safe, my city isn’t there,” think again: this is just those metropolitan areas with the ten highest rates for HIV. Yours could be number 11, or any number. Get tested, and click here for a link to resources to help you do just that.

Here are the remaining nine U.S. cities with the highest rates of HIV.

New Orleans

Baton Rouge

Jackson, Miss.

Washington, D.C.

Baltimore
