Conservative writer and radio host Dennis Prager believes straight people contracting HIV/AIDS and the reported high rates of women victimized by sexual assault are nothing more than the result of liberal “hysterias.”

Last Weeek, James Dobson aired Prager’s speech at the Western Conservative Summit, given in July, on his “Family Talk” radio program.

“The left has a monopoly, almost a monopoly, on hysteria,” he said. “And I will just give you a few examples of the hysterias of your lifetime. One was heterosexual AIDs in America. Do you remember that? when we were told by Time and Newsweek and The New York Times, remember when they said AIDS doesn’t discriminate? Well, that was a lie. AIDS does discriminate. It happens to attack in America — and I emphasize in America — overwhelmingly, gay men and intravenous drug users and his partners. You know the group least likely to get AIDS? Gay women. So it can’t be homophobic to say the truth.”

While gay and bisexual remain the population most affected by HIV/AIDS, heterosexual sexual contact accounted for 24 percent of estimated HIV diagnoses in 2014, according to the most recent figures available from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Additionally, an estimated six percent were attributed to injection drug use.

Prager also questions the validity of “rape culture,” and said he does not believe the statistic of the almost one in four women at college campuses reporting being the victims of sexual assault or misconduct, which comes from a survey conducted by the Association of American Universities and published in September of 2015.

Prager is supporting Donald Trump for president, despite the fact that he is now facing sexual assault allegations from a number of women after the 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape emerged where he bragged of kissing and groping women without their consent. He was then asked in the second debate if he had ever done the things he outlined on the tape, and his denial reportedly prompted women to come forward claiming otherwise.
