Noted anti-abortion activist Flip Benham is also well known for his homophobic antics. He and his house flipping sons are notorious for their unhinged speeches and particularly vicious protests of pride events in their hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.
After the city passed a nondiscrimination ordinance that included gender identity protections, Republican state lawmakers and Governor Pat McCrory rushed through legislation to make it illegal for trans people to pee in the correct restroom and nullify LGBT nondiscrimination laws throughout the state. While the state has been hammered on the national level for promoting prejudice against LGBT people, conservative Christians and Republican politicians have embraced the law – no matter the cost.
So it should come as no surprise that when Benham stood up to speak during the public portion of a recent city council meeting, he had two things on his mind. Benham was there to accuse the city council of putting its “middle finger right in the eye of almighty God.”
Ouch. How rude.

“There is one God and we’re going to stand for him in this city,” Benham told the council according to Right Wing Watch. “You cannot make a moral wrong a civil right. You have no right to do that! It’s a moral wrong.”
“If God doesn’t fix this city, if God isn’t the answer, if God isn’t at the foundation, you’re going to have bloodshed coursing down the corners of our streets, our schools and our workplaces and you’re not going to have a police force big enough to stop it,” he shouted. “When you sow bloodshed in the womb — and we have three abortion mills here in this city — you’re going to reap it in the streets and our God is a God of truth and these things happen. When you cast God behind your back, violence always comes in to replace the void.”
“Now we’ve got this transgenderism nonsense! It’s not a sin to be black! But it is a sin to be a practicing homosexual! It is a sin. It is not a moral right! It is wrong and you need to say so and you’ve opened up the doors of hell on our city, you and this council and you need to repent!”
In case you’re wondering, the doors of hell do not show up on any marketing materials from the city. It’s not even on Google maps – at least not in North Carolina. The trans rights supporting eggheads at Google claim it’s in Turkmenistan; they’re probably in on the nefarious bloodshed plan too.
