What goes up, must go down, and in Cleveland signs that reportedly marked an elevator bank as “white” are coming down.
A reporter for the Wall Street Journal tweeted a photo showing the signs inside the Quicken Loans Arena, where the Republican National Convention begins today. Byron Tau said in his tweet, “it’s being replaced for obvious reasons.”

No word on whether that bank of elevators run on “white power,” or if there are in fact “black” elevators anywhere within the arena.
While reminiscent of “whites only” signs from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, there’s nothing to indicate the party was intent on segregating delegates according to their race. And there’s nothing in the GOP platform to indicate otherwise. It clearly states, “In the spirit of the Constitution, we consider discrimination based on sex, race, age, religion, creed, disability, or national origin unacceptable and immoral,” and “As a matter of principle, we oppose the creation of any new race-based governments within the United States.”
