John Barrowman canceled Comic Con appearance due to safety threat

Out actor John Barrowman was forced to cancel an appearance at the Montreal Comic Con over the weekend after getting an email that threatened his safety.

On Saturday, Barrowman posted to his Facebook page to say he wouldn’t be appearing.

“This morning an email was sent that directly referenced me and In light of recent events, I’ve decided to take the advice of my management and family as they were concerned for my safety. We are working with the convention to arrange for security that not only keeps me safe but also all of you who come to see me,” he wrote. “I’m really sorry I have had to cancel my panel and photo ops this weekend. I will be signing later today once security has been arranged. Please check with the promoter and social media for updates on where and when I will be signing.”

Later in the day, Barrowman posted a video explaining the threat further. He filmed the update from a secure room that had been obtained so he could sign autographs and pose for photos with fans.

By Sunday, the actor was on his way home without incident. No one has been arrested in the incident and no suspects have been named.
