Heavily armed man arrested; told police he was going to LA Pride Parade

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif — According to officials, a “heavily armed” man was arrested last night in Santa Monica intended to go to the Los Angeles pride parade.

His arrest came mere hours after a man named Omar Mateen fatally shot 50 people attending a gay club in Orlanda, Florida.

53 more people were wounded in the attack.

During a press conference, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said:

An individual here, we believe completely unrelated (to Orlando), who said he was coming to Pride who was heavily armed and was apprehended by Santa Monica police department officials in the area last night.”

The suspect’s name hasn’t been released, but authorities think he was acting alone.
ABC News reports the Gay Pride Parade will continue as scheduled.
