Members of the nation’s largest LGBT Christian church were evacuated Sunday after security found three suspicious packages left at the perimeter of the church property. Worshippers continued the service, entitled “Be Anxious for Nothing,” on the church’s grounds.
While the packages, a suitcase and two carry on bags, were cleared by bomb squad inspectors, tensions remain high for LGBT people following the Orlando mass shooting at a gay nightclub that killed 49 predominantly LGBT and Latino revelers.
The church posted photos of the outside service under the trees on Facebook with the message, “This will not deter us from worship this morning and we will continue to not walk in fear or allow instances of hate to overcome the promise to love.”
