Texas GOP leader draws controversy for homophobic Twitter rants

Robert Morrow, the new head of Travis County, Texas’ Republican party, has GOP leaders in an uproar after he went on a Twitter tirade that makes Donald Trump’s social media ravings look sane in comparison. Now his vice-chair and other officials are seeking to remove him from his position.

Morrow’s tweets on Tuesday touched on the sexual orientation of several prominent elected officials, spewed conspiracy theory nonsense, and called for the imprisonment of the Bush family. After the Texas Tribune told Morrow that his vice-chair, Matt Mackowiak, had said he “exploring” options to remove Morrow from his elected position, Morrow called him a “douchebag” and passed along a message to party leaders demanding his resignation: “Tell them they can go fuck themselves.”

In a series of rambling tweets, Morrow, who also has a YouTube channel chock-full or similar rants, is known for his vulgar and sexually explicit insults of politicians. This time, however, he went above and beyond in his equal opportunity insults.

A sampling of Morrow’s tweets include: “Bill says Hillary has eaten more pussy than he has”, “Is Hillary really an angry bull dyke? Bill says so”, “Pretty sure George W Bush can suck a dick better than Hillary Clinton”, “Many women say Bill Clinton’s penis is ‘not Presidential timber'”. Morrow also claims that former president George HW Bush is “a homosexual pedophile,” former Texas governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry is “a rampaging bisexual adulterer,” and Karl Rove is “having a homosexual affair.”

“We will explore every single option that exists, whether it be persuading him to resign, trying to force him to resign, constraining his power, removing his ability to spend money or resisting any attempt for him to access data or our social media account,” Mackowiak said. “I’m treating this as a coup and as a hostile takeover.”

“I will not rest until we remove him as chairman,” Mackowiak told the Tribune. “He’s going to be an absolute embarrassment to the party. And if we fail in these efforts, we will start an alternate organization.”

Morrow was recently elected to the position and, if efforts fail to remove him, will assume the post in June.
