Somebody’s been arrested in the death of a Philadelphia transgender woman

An arrest has been made in the February 20 stabbing death of Maya Young, a 25-year-old Philadelphia transgender woman, Philly.com reports. She was at least the third transgender person murdered in the Philly area in the past year.

Tiffany E. Floyd, 24, is being held without bond on charges of murder and conspiracy. More arrests were “imminent,” said local authorities.

Just prior to midnight on February 20 in the Frankford area of Philadelphia, Young was found with multiple stab wounds on the neck and chest, according to police. She died at the hospital only minutes later.

No motive has yet been released in her killing. Court records indicate that both Young and Floyd had prostitution records.

In prior Philly area transgender murders, Kiesha Jenkins, 22, was assaulted, robbed and gunned down last October. And London Kiki Chanel, 21, was stabbed last May.

According to Human Rights Watch, at least 21 transgender people were killed last year–the highest total on record.
