Grammy Award-winning musician Sam Smith took to Instagram on Tuesday to draw attention to an account with the handle “@gaysamsmith” that openly mocked the artist’s sexuality.
The description of the account: “WE HATE F** SMITH. There is a f**, his name is sam. when he’s on, i like to cry. he is gay but that’s okay, we can all make fun of him.”
Next to a screenshot of the offending profile, Smith posted the following message to his Instagram account: “This genuinely doesn’t offend me, coz I’m way too [thick] skinned when it comes to this kind of s***. But I just wanted to share this with everyone, so you can see how homophobia is still SO PRESENT in our society!!”
