SANTIAGO, Chile — Lawmakers in Chile are expected to introduce a bill Wednesday aimed at extending marriage rights to same-sex couples in the South American country.
The Civil Marriage Act currently defines marriage as between a man and a woman, but the new bill would amend the law to define marriage as between two people.
The bill will be introduced in the House of Deputies.
President Michelle Bachelet, who publicly supported marriage equality during her 2013 presidential campaign, supports the bill.
