Following the ceremony, Baer tweeted the news “So I got married this morning,” expressing thanks to Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Secretary of State John Kerry for their “commitment to equality.”

Baer’s appointment to the OSCE last year was one of five high profile diplomatic positions awarded to openly gay men by the Obama Administration during the president’s second term.

He and Walsh now reside in Vienna where the OSCE headquarters is located.
