SALT LAKE CITY — Facebook has donated $10,000 to the campaign of Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, according to disclosures filed with the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s office.

Q Salt Lake reports Facebook made the donation on May 13, 2014.

Reyes is leading the fight against a federal court ruling striking down Utah’s same-sex marriage ban, but in a statement to Q Salt Lake, a Facebook spokesperson said, “A contribution to a candidate does not mean that we agree with every policy or position that candidate takes.”

The spokesperson, who cited Reyes’ efforts on “internet safety and patent reform” as the basis for its donation, made note of three pro-equality candidates to whom Facebook has also contributed substantial financial support.

Reyes has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a December federal court ruling striking down the ban. The ruling was upheld by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in June.
