SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Gov. Pat Quinn said Thursday that Illinois is “one step closer” to marriage equality.
The Illinois Senate on Thursday approved a measure that would legalize marriage equality for same-sex couples. The Democratic governor called it “historic legislation.”
Quinn applauded the Senate vote and said the bill lets “all committed couples” have the legal protections and benefits of marriage.
He urged the Illinois House of Representatives to pass the same legislation.
