Chris Kluwe battles government agents in new marriage equality ad

Chris Kluwe, the Minnesota Vikings punter and outspoken marriage equality advocate, argues against a proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in Minnesota in a satirical new radio ad for the group for Minnesotans for Equality.

In the ad, Kluwe battles government agents as he references his now famous “lustful cockmonster” phrase used in a letter to a Maryland lawmaker last month to argue in support of marriage equality and free speech.

Listen:

Minnesotans for Equality — one of the groups opposing the Minnesota amendment — was written and produced by political consultant Bill Hillsman. It will begin airing Thursday on radio stations across Minnesota.

Last month, Kluwe posted an open letter on the website Deadspin that he had sent to Maryland state lawmaker Emmett Burns, defending the opinions of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, and sharply criticizing Burns on his attempt to stifle Ayanbadejo’s free speech.

“I can assure you that gay people getting married will have zero effect on your life,” Kluwe wrote the legislator.

“They won’t come into your house and steal your children. They won’t magically turn you into a lustful cockmonster. They won’t even overthrow the government in an orgy of hedonistic debauchery because all of a sudden they have the same legal rights as the other 90 percent of our population…”

Kluwe also appears in a video for Minnesotans United for All Families, the official campaign working to defeat the proposed constitutional ban.
