New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on the case for marriage equality

In a passionate and sweeping address on Thursday at Cooper Union, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg laid out his case for why the State Legislature must vote on same-sex marriage before the legislative session ends in June.

Bloomberg is advocating for an “up or down” vote that would put Senators on record.

“The public has a right to know where their legislators stand,” said Bloomberg, and said private “pronouncements” or off the record commitments aren’t “appropriate.”
