Terrence McNally’s Broadway play ‘Mothers and Sons’ to close

NEW YORK -- Terrence McNally's "Mothers and Sons" is the first victim of the Tony Awards: It will close on June 22 after missing out on being crowned the season's best play. The play, which had more than 100 performances, is being billed as the first time a legally married gay couple has been portrayed on Broadway.

NEW YORK — Terrence McNally's new play opens with a woman of a certain age wearing a lush, black fur coat. It's a provocatively politically incorrect garment — and a giveaway that what will come out of her mouth will be, too.
