Shaw v. Shaw

Shaw v. Shaw is a Florida case filed by a same-sex couple who married in Massachusetts, but later relocated to Florida, and is seeking a divorce. On May 9, 2014, a judge refused to grant the dissolution based on the state’s ban on recognizing marriages of same-sex couples. In August 2014, the couple asked the Florida Supreme Court to determine whether or not the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is constitutional. In September 2014, the Florida Supreme Court refused to consider the question of same-sex marriage, and sent the case back to a state appeals court.
