Second N.M. county begins issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples

Santa Fe County Commissioner Liz Stefanics and her partner of 22 years, Linda Siegle, were married by Judge Mark Basham on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013. The couple were the first to receive their marriage license from Santa Fe County Clerk Geraldine Salazar.
SANTA FE, N.M. -- The county clerk in the state capital and the heart of this state's gay rights movement on Friday began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, a court-ordered move that came just two days after a county clerk in southern New Mexico decided on his own to recognize gay marriage.
