Robbie Rogers

Robert Hampton “Robbie” Rogers (b. May 12, 1987) is an American professional soccer player who plays for Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer. Rogers has also represented the United States men’s national soccer team. In February 2013, Rogers came out as gay, and announced his retirement. Rogers returned to the sport in May 2013, and became the first openly gay man to compete in a top North American professional sports league when he played his first match for the Galaxy.

I really hope that Robbie Rogers reconsiders retirement and promptly returns to the field. I’ve got news for him, he will be gay for the rest of his life, but his athletic ability will be short-lived. If soccer really gave him such incredible joy, there is no reason he can’t discover himself while still on the team.
