Toledo city council expands hate crimes ordinance to include gender identity
TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo city council on Tuesday voted unanimously to strengthen the city’s hate crime statute to protect transgender individuals. The Toledo Blade reports the council voted 12-0 to add gender identity to the city ordinance in the wake of a brutal beating and robbery last month of a transgender woman.

Ohio judge unintentionally approves same-sex couple’s divorce
ATHENS, Ohio — An Ohio judge said he was unaware that both parties in a divorce case were women when he signed a judgement last week granting their divorce. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Athens County Common Pleas Judge George McCarthy approved the divorce on Nov. 25, but said he was unaware the petitioners were of the same sex.
