The Christian Right’s version of religious liberty is equality you can’t access
The Christian Right’s fight against LGBTQ rights is different from their fight against abortion in many ways — but there are also striking similarities. The Christian Right is already seeking to redefine religious liberty as a way of allowing LGBTQ rights to remain intact, but to obstruct — and sometimes eliminate — people’s ability to exercise them. Indeed, many of the same Christian Right leaders and organizations that have been seeking to reduce access to abortion are now seeking to limit the scope of LGBTQ rights and marriage equality.

Boehner appoints NOM co-founder to commission on religious freedom
WASHINGTON — U.S. House Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday appointed Robert George, co-founder and chairman emeritus of the National Organization for Marriage, to the U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom, which, according to the Commission’s chairman, addresses “the challenges of religious extremism, intolerance, and repression throughout the world.”

Republican congressmen call on Uganda president to block anti-gay bill
Five members of the U.S. Congress are calling on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to reject proposed anti-gay legislation that imposes harsh penalties, including execution, for certain acts of homosexuality.
