Ore. governor, AG hail marriage ruling; reaction from supporters, opponents

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Both supporters and opponents of marriage equality spoke out Monday about a federal judge's ruling striking down Oregon's ban on same-sex marriage. Both the Governor and the Attorney General supported the ruling, and the state previously declined to defend the ban in court.

Lawmakers call on Obama to sign executive order protecting LGBT workers

WASHINGTON -- Nearly 200 Congressional lawmakers on Tuesday sent a letter to President Obama Tuesday calling for an Executive Order banning contractors from receiving federal government contracts unless they have a policy prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Employment Non-Discrimination Act reintroduced in Congress

WASHINGTON -- The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) was reintroduced in both chambers of Congress on Thursday. The measure would prohibit discrimination in hiring and employment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity by civilian, nonreligious employers with at least 15 employees.

Veterans Affairs grants burial rights for Oregon veteran’s same-sex spouse

The Department of Veterans Affairs has decided to allow the same-sex spouse of a member of the military to be buried in a U.S. national cemetery. VA Secretary Eric Shinseki used his discretionary authority to allow the burial of Nancy Lynchild's ashes, the agency said Thursday.

ENDA and gay immigration rights bills reintroduced in U.S. Congress

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) was re-introduced in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, and on Thursday a bill to help bi-national LGBT couples was also re-intorduced. This brings the total 15 the number of pro-LGBT bills introduced to the House and Senate in the 112th Congress.
