Good journalism: CNN’s Baldwin puts Perkins’ anti-gay views in context

Friday, May 25, 2012
CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Thursday afternoon gave an almost textbook example of how to tell a complete story when dealing with an anti-gay activist. Joining Baldwin was Tony Perkins, there to speak about his afternoon press conference opposing President Obama’s support for marriage equality. Perkins is certainly one of the loudest anti-gay activists in the country, and his voice was absolutely relevant to today’s discussion, surrounding his press conference. But he always needs to be put into context, since in front of mainstream audiences he plays a completely different character than the one he plays in front of supporters. [ Read more → ]

MSNBC holds FRC President Tony Perkins accountable

Friday, May 11, 2012
There are some people whose views are so intractable that they will never – as the President put it – “evolve” on this issue. But those folks really are few and far between. To tell the full story on marriage equality, the media needs to talk to folks who have changed their minds on the issue and explore the changes that are happening in our culture that has led to a majority of Americans now supporting marriage equality. It also needs to expose the true roots of the views of people like FRC President Tony Perkins, so that Americans know who he is when he shows up in these debate segments... [ Read more → ]

Because the "Day of Silence" -- and the organization behind it, GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) -- deals with the plight of LGBT students, they both have been in the cross hairs of religious right groups who claim that Day of Silence is simply another way to supposedly “indoctrinate” students into homosexuality... ‘Day of Dialogue’ from Focus on the Family is ‘sacred discrimination’

Sunday, April 8, 2012
I have a hair-trigger sensitivity for the protection of LGBT youth. Even if an action is wrapped in heart-themed paper and tied with a Jesus-loves-you ribbon, when there is something rotten inside, I can smell it. There is something very rotten at the core of the Day of Dialogue event sponsored by the conservative Christian ministry Focus on the Family. [ Read more → ]
