Constance McMillen became a poster child for LGBT rights after asking permission to bring her girlfriend to the prom. When her school responded by cancelling the prom, McMillen took legal action.

Constance McMillen, a Mississippi teen who sued her school for canceling the prom rather than let her attend with her girlfriend, will be the subject of a made-for-TV movie. “It is a project that is in the very early stages," confirmed the ABC Family cable channel.

A Mississippi school district has agreed to pay a recent high school graduate $35,000 in damages and adopt a policy prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, according to a statement released Tuesday by the American Civil Liberties Union.
