‘Ender’s Game’ tops weekend box office receipts despite calls for LGBT boycott

LOS ANGELES -- Despite calls for a nationwide boycott due to the anti-gay views of the author on whose novel the film was based, "Ender's Game" scored the No. 1 slot at the weekend box office, earning $28 million in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Stolichnaya, the most recognizable name among Russian vodkas, is at the center of a boycott over Russia's anti-gay laws.
LGBT activists, led by Seattle-based advice columnist and "It Gets Better" campaign founder Dan Savage, have launched a boycott of Russian vodka in response to anti-gay legislation signed by Russian president Vladimir Putin, and increased violence against LGBT citizens in Russia.
