Complaint accuses Fla. insurers of discrimination against HIV patients

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Two health organizations filed a complaint with federal officials Thursday, alleging that some Florida insurance companies are violating the Affordable Care Act by structuring their drug policies in a way that discourages consumers with HIV and AIDS from choosing their plans.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- An anti-gay Tennessee state lawmaker who has spent much of his legislative career sponsoring anti-LGBT bills, has likened the insurance requirement under President Barack Obama's health care law to the forced deportation of Jews during the Holocaust.

Same-sex couples finding uneven access to health insurance

It took two months of near daily phone calls and emails to an insurer for Bechdel and Miller to get family coverage under the federal health law. The couple was initially told their application was not processed because Pennsylvania doesn't recognize their marriage.
For same-sex couples, access to family insurance plans under Affordable Care Act is not guaranteed this year, and their options run the gamut, mirroring in part the patchwork of state laws governing same-sex marriage that have changed rapidly in recent years.

OPM to extend health coverage to gay federal employees’ children

Gay federal employees will be able to cover the children of their same-sex partners under the federal health insurance plan once a proposed rule published Friday by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management is enacted.
