Religious leaders on Saturday slammed New York state’s new marriage equality law, and vowed to ban lawmakers who supported the measure from Catholic church and school events.

Winning the freedom to marry in New York is without a doubt a watershed moment for our country and our campaign.

In a historic late night vote -- the last vote of the legislative session, after years of failed efforts to align votes in both Assembly and the Senate, and on the eve of New York City pride -- the New York state Senate late Friday approved a marriage equity bill.
