London Pride celebration attracts more than 1 million revelers
An estimated one million people in London turned out for the annual gay pride celebrations on Saturday, making it one of the largest pride events in the world.
Among those attending the event was the Liberal Democrat equality minister Lynne Featherstone, who earlier this week disclosed that the government was considering allowing same-sex couples to include hymn singing and religious readings in civil partnership ceremonies. London’s mayor, Boris Johnson, also attended, as did the openly gay Conservative policing minister Nick Herbert.

Gay sex scene revealed in new ‘Dragon Age’ video game
Acclaimed new video game Dragon Age: Origins features a ‘secret’ gay sex scene involving a man and an elf, it has been revealed.
The game, developed by BioWare, allows players to develop combat and magic skills, interact with other characters and have romantic encounters. If you play as a male character, it is possible to have a liaison with a male elf named Zevran.
Access to the scene can only be granted if the player uses the right combination of cheesy chat up lines to seduce the warrior elf, reports the website geeks.co.uk.
In a clip posted online, the gamer-controlled human character runs through the correct list of options, starting with the inevitably cheesy, “I want to discuss something personal” – one of four dialogue options available.
He then makes his intentions explicit with “Can you join me in my tent?” before coming in for the kill with, “I bet you’re good at a lot of things”.

Writes GayGamer.net:
“With this bare-chested and unflinching portrayal, it feels as if the depiction of gay sex in video games has reached a new level of equal treatment … there’s choreography, tenderness, humor and even an element of sexual politics to Zevran’s post-coital conversation. Kudos to BioWare for adding a bit of a gay storyline to their game and for dealing with gay romance as even-evenhandedly as they do the heterosexual options.”
Male-female and lesbian couplings are also possible in the game.

Revelers descend on New Orleans for annual ‘Southern Decadence’
Thousands of tourists, gay and straight, are descending on New Orleans this weekend for the annual Southern Decadence Festival, which organizers says is “one of the gay world’s major annual events.”
In the almost four decades since it started, Southern Decadence has become a traditional Labor Day weekend, end-of-summer, event. But for two of the last four years, hurricanes crashed the French Quarter-centered party. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Gustav last year both generated evacuation orders for the city and brought the festivities to a screeching halt.
The event started as a birthday party bar crawl with about a dozen New Orleans residents making the French Quarter circuit, according to Jonathan Bray, one of the organizers of Southern Decadence, and has grown to be one of the biggest gay events in the country, attracting about 100,000 people in the past, and a welcome economic boost for French Quarter merchants during one of the slowest tourist periods.
“It’s a crowd with disposable income and they enjoy themselves,” said Mary Beth Romig of the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau. “And it’s a very loyal group. They come back year after year.”
People started arriving on Wednesday and most stay until Tuesday, enjoying such events as talent contests, dance parties, and free outdoor concerts.
The celebration runs through the Labor Day weekend.
