DOVER, Del. — Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is speaking out in favor of marriage equality, appearing in a new video release Wednesday by Equality Delaware, a statewide LGBT advocacy group.
Biden, son of U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden, says, “All Delawareans should be able to marry the person they love, the person who they want to spend their life with. The freedom to marry is the fundamental, defining civil rights issue of our time.”
Watch:
Delaware state lawmakers have said it’s likely that a bill to legalize same-sex marriage will be introduced in the legislature this year, barely a year after same-sex civil unions became legal in Delaware.

In 2011, Delaware passed legislation legalizing same-sex civil unions; the law took effect January 1, 2012.
Last year, Gov. Jack Markell, a Democrat, said he thought that the legalization of same-sex marriage in Delaware was “inevitable” and would be passed “probably within the next few years.”
A poll released last week found that Delaware voters support marriage equality by a 17-point margin.
