Kay, a 20-year old student at Ryerson University in Toronto, decided recently that it was time to come out to her 15-year old sister.
When she did so, via text, she got quite the surprise.
“It was very spur-of-the-moment, but I felt like it was time,” she told BuzzFeed News.
“I’m gay,” Kay told her sister, Sam.

“Okay, as long as you’re happy I’m happy,” Sam replied.
Kay explained that in fact she likes both boys and girls, but that it is easier to say gay. That’s when the unexpected happened.
“I guess I can tell you now that I’m bisexual too,” Sam told her.
“At first I was shocked, and I almost thought she was joking around to make me feel more comfortable,” Kay said, “but then I realized she wasn’t one to joke around.”
“It was a happy moment. I feel like I have someone to share my experiences with and, it’s my sister, so it’s even more special.”
Kay advised others make sure they are ready before coming out.
She added that “it’s important to tell people you love. If they don’t accept it, just keep living your life.”
